Must haves for Autumn/Winter 2022

The autumnal season is now fully commenced. The days have gotten shorter, darker and colder. Now is the perfect time to revamp your closet to add pieces you can use for this cooler season to be the one that turns head. While not all the pieces are head turners, they will still be good enough to catch some attention even if you do not want it. This is a good guide of five of the most must haves items in the fashion world.

Leather

One material that is seen across runways for both men a and women in most, if not all fashion houses is Leather. This, in my opinion, is a staple for the Autumn/Winter . Not only is it stylish, but it is a great way to to add a little edge to your look. Especially with the ways designers have taken a classic clothing material and made it more fun.

Moreover, a leather garment is a great stylish essential in your wardrobe. While you can get more fun iterations of a leather clothing, sometimes it is just great to go for a classic all black leather piece. These pieces are timeless and never go out of style because a black leather garment can be used anytime pop the year no matter what the current trend is.

Plaid Print

(Left to right: Boss, Versace & Ralph Lauren)

Another staple for the autumnal and winter seasons is plaid print. There really is something that makes you want to put on a plaid attire when the days start to get chillier. Maybe the warmth, maybe the look, or maybe the comfortability. Nevertheless, from pure plaids, to gingham to even houndstooth. This has been used in various garments across many catwalks. From coats to dresses to suits. Any winter item you may need, you may find in this print.

You can go in two ways when wearing plaid. You can go for the very classic plait and gingham prints which are more casual and laid back. Or you can try a bolder approach by mixing plaids and wearing them in bolder colors than the usual primary colors. This is definitely a trend that your can try out without putting yourself out of your comfort zone too much as mostly everyone has worn some interaction of plaid at some point in their life, willingly or not. Lol

Puffer Bags

(Top: Louis Vuitton Menswear Bottom: Miu Miu & Tom Ford)

This was a trend that was starting out last year from my observations, however; it was only a few designers that had puffer bags. This year however, the bag trend came in full force, with basically every clothing brand having their own version a puffer bag.

Whether it be a simple design across to quilting and styling that makes it look like it was woven; the puffer bag comes in various shapes, colors and designs. Again, this is such an easy trend to try out for either men or women, because puffer bags come in various sizes, colors, and shapes; that you can make it fit the aesthetic you are going for. While it may seem like you could only bring it out for the colder seasons, I say be different and wear it year round. Make it your signature bag!

Big Bags

(Top row [l-r]: Marc Jacobs & Jill Sanders
Bottom Row: Thom Browne & Our Legacy)

This is a trend that has been on the catwalks previously, and again more fashion houses have started making their own iterations of the big bag. I honestly think this is the aftermath of the fashion industry of having a lot of TBE (Tiny Bag Energy.) People are now gravitating to bags that can actually hold their phone and are more utilitarian.

(Top row [l-r]: Ralph Lauren & Études Bottom Row: Ernest W. Baker & Dior Men

In the sense that the big previous bag trend sometimes didn’t even fit a phone or even an ID. Another easy trend to try out and expand your fashion circle. You can go low key with just a big tote bag in a neutral color. Or you can also be bold with it and have a bag that’s a hodgepodge of various prints that are surely to make everyone stare at your bag a little longer.

Head Gear

(Top row [l-r]: Boss & Robyn Lynch Bottom Row: Casablanca & Kenzo)

I think this is a staple for autumn/winter regardless of if it is a trend or not. I live in chicago, and the cold here is brutal. Not to mention the windchill. So a hat is kinda of a necessity. If not a hat, something that will keep your head warm. This trend is another one where you can look how you want to look in it.

(Top row [l-r]: Kolor & Jil Sanders’ Bottom Row: Thom Browne & Off-White)

You can either go bold and wear statement hast that will surely make you stand out. Or you can go plain, simple and subdued, with a hat in a neutral color and that looks very casual. Again, another easy way to try and put yourself out of our own fashion comfort zone. If you don’t like what hat you picked, you can always just take it off and put it away in your bag or something. A great way to experiment with your style and aesthetic.

I think these trends are good for people who want to experiment with their fashion but maybe scared or feel like they can’t pull off certain looks/aesthetics. They are trends that are very easy to try as they are garments and accessories you may have worn before but maybe in a different way.

Maybe you’ve worn a plaid shirt, but not a plaid coat or dress. Maybe you’ve worn leather boots but never leather trousers. These being timeless pieces/materials in trendier iterations can become staples in your wardrobe and would have more longevity overtime and can become your signature seasonal staples.

Let me know in the comments what trend you will try or let me know what trends I didn’t mention that I should’ve. While there were many, these are the ones that stood out the most amongst all fashion houses as being very similar no matter the fashion house.
