By now if you have not heard of FIFTY FIFTY you will learn about them. With breaking records each week, they are a new girl group on the rise.

Who is FIFTY FIFTY?

FIFTY FIFTY is a four member girl group from South Korea. The group is Keena, Saena, Sio, and Aran .

The group is under a new company Atrrtkt label and debuted on November 18, 2022, with the Song “Higher” and their EP “THE FIFTY.”

FIFTY FIFTY’s name has the meaning of ‘50 vs 50’, which means a ‘50:50’ probability; and also contains the meaning of ‘ideal’ and ‘reality’ respectively. To put this in easier terms their name means a 50/50 chance; including ideal and reality; which I theorize means their range in music from dreamy love songs like Higher to reality enducing songs like Lovin’ Me and “Cupid.’

Their fandom/fan name is Hunnies. The name meaning that 50/50 with the fans complete one hundred, and also that hunnies which sounds like hunnid, which if you listen to hip hop is another way of saying one hundred. Fans also like to call FIFTY FIFTY, fifi, which is a shortened version of the name.

The group also has various unofficial subunits that do tracks together on their projects; some of the pairings as of now have been Sio and Keena, Saena and Aran, as well as Sio and Aran.

The Beginning…

The girls debuted with their EP titled “THE FIFTY” containing four tracks, two group tracks (Higher and Log In) and two subunit tracks (Lovin’ Me [Sio and Keena] and Tell Me [Saena and Aran]).

This EP showed a wide range of sound that Fifi could cover, from breathy dreams in higher, a hip hop-pop inspired girl crush song that is Log in, a retro inspired song in Tell ME and the perfect song for a coming of age movie in Lovin’ Me. This was a critically acclaimed album not only from Korean reviews but from Western critics as well, appearing in various list of best songs of 2023.

After their debut they released their first comeback titled “The Beginning: Cupid- Single” on February 24, 2023; three months after debut. This single album contains three tracks Cupid, Cupid (Twin Version) and Cupid (Instrumental); with the twin version being an English version of the Korean one sung by Sio and Aran; without the rap and a few adjustment in the music and lyrics. Little did they know that their first combo would be the song to change the trajectory of their career…

Viral Success

The girls went viral online with their last comeback; which happened to be their first comeback titled “Cupid.” This song started becoming popular on TikTok, which was a sped up version, and has now become a huge hit that has been breaking various records.

From new billboard achievements every week to breaking Spotify records the viral success is being seen throughout the world.

This is huge for the girls and for kpop in general as they have only been in the music industry, as of now(05/26/23), for six (6) months. And they are getting achievements that took other groups years, not discrediting the other artists as these are very big accomplishments; its just astonishing that a new girl group with only 7 songs in their discography ( 3 being different versions of ‘Cupid”) have already achieved huge milestones.

Big Things to Come

With the a would sound like. Well fans have to wait no more as they were confirmed to release a new single that will be included in the Barbie movie soundtrack.

Another huge achievement as this may potential help FIFTY FIFTY a lot as Barbie is already a highly anticipated movie, and not to mention all the other amazing artist on the soundtrack which will surely get their fans to listen to the sountrack and maybe fifi’s track. Additionally, they will also release “Cupid: The Beginning- EP” in the US, which will also help with the billboard position and longevity on the charts. SO I believe we will still be seeing a lot more of fifty fifty in American music charts.

All in all, I think everybody should check out and support FIFTY FIFTY as they have great music and seem like great girls. Tracks I recommend are Tell Me from their debut EP and also Cupid (Twin Version) which by the way, is the best English version of a K-pop I have ever heard.
