Time flew by. We are now in 2023… While being only a couple of weeks into the new year there have been many anticipated releases from film and tv shows. But last year there were many great things released as well. Following, I will recommend some films released that I have seen and think other people will enjoy. Ranging from genre, I think that I have something anybody can enjoy. Most if not all movies, should be available on streaming sites.
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

This was a movie that surprised me when I watched it. While it is a sci-if film, when watching it; you can expect to experience all of your emotions. A quick summary of this movie is that it is about a woman, Evelyn, who in the midst of a divorce and problems with the IRS, gets contacted to defeat a great evil that is going across alternate universes and killing the ‘other’ Evelyn’s. Only she might be able to defeat the villain, as she created her. A fresh take on finding yourself, your purpose, and accepting others, while transcending time, space and universes.
I think this movie was great because it brought many aspects to the forefront. While it was a sci-if film, you laughed at the comedic timing, you CRIED(I CRIED SO MUCH) at the touching moments. (When he told her, he’d want to live their mundane life over everything… I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THAAATTT!!!) The way they added the emotional, and comedic effects with the sci-if aspect was truly amazing.
Moreover, the characters had depth. As the story progress, you get to learn why and how the characters have come to be in the situation that they are in and it is great for showing character development. Additionally, they used great cinematography. The angles and ways of shooting for each “life” helped set the tone for that version of herself. Also how the angles and ways of looking at things changed from when she was a kid, to when she was an adult. I loved how it went from looking pup, to a looking down affect as she had gotten taller and in some cases more successful. Honestly, if you are having troubles in your life whether it be something small or maybe having a difficult life changes going on; this is a great movie to help put into perspective that EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
This movie is available to stream on Showtime. This movie is rated R.
X (2022)

An homage to a time period where the horror genre began. The film title literally states the plot of the film. The movie is about a group who rent a small cabin on a farm in Texas to shoot a porno; without the knowledge of the farm owners. With very ominous encounters, that soon turn deadly, the group tries to survive the night. While the story may sound simple, it is the way it is shown that make it stand out.
This was a good horror movie not only two you get the horrors aspect, but you get that uncomfortable eerie feeling throughout the whole film. I think those are signs of a great horror film. You aren’t just waiting for the next jump scare, or creepy shot. You have a sense of unease as the characters wade throughout the farm, whether something bad is gonna happen or not. The film does a great job at keeping you on your toes.
When things are being shot during the adult film and another thing is happening and they have it align,is one cool thing they do. Like when Maxine is getting out of the pond and as soon, as she gets out the director yells “action” and then a gator pops out off the water. That is one of many’s shots and I like that it gives this weird aspect of feeling everything is eerily intertwined, soon comes to be explained later. Calling back to the origins of low budget 1970’s horror films, the nude scenes are hear. And not only woman, you will see meat(lol.)
The character of pearl, then gets her backstory, with the movie, Pearl, a prelude to X. In this movie, you see why everything felt weirdly intertwined. Furthermore, the third installment of this franchise, Maxxxine, has began seeing online promotion and will probably have a late 2023/ early 2024.
The movie X is available to stream on showtime. This movie is rated R. The prequel is not yet available on any streaming services yet.
Bullet Train (2022)

The Bad Bunny movie. I am not gonna lie the whole reason I was anticipating this movie because I am a big fan and supporter of Bad Bunny. Putting, Benito aside, this is actually a good movie. To summarize the movie, various people, who are trained assassins are on a bullet train, each trying to complete a different mission, yet all intertwined without knowing.

Action packed with a killer cast, you are sure to have a good time watching this movie. It has great comedic timing and the fighting sequences are good as well. This one is a bit shorter, but this is one of those movies you can put on whenever and watch and just enjoy it.
You will want to rewatch because the cast is great and all the characters have their own great features and quirks. From funny nicknames, to interesting background; the film does great in creating characters, rather than just inserting them.Oh, and did I mention the Japanese remakes of disco classics? Yeah, this movie is a just a funny-action packed-film that is great to watch family and friends.
This movie is available to stream on HBO Max. This movie is rated R.
While my film recommendations maybe short, I just began to start watch more films this year. These films really helped push me into an area where I would kind of avoid. I do like tv shows because they are longer and more drawn out, but a movie could do just good or even better at telling a story. As the most and best has to be packed in an hour or two; rather than drawing something out over the course of 10 or so episodes. With sci-if, horror, and an action-comedy; I believe i covered various genres and these are genres that many people check out.
However, I do strongly recommended watching Everything, Everywhere All At Once. While being the sci-fi movie from the bunch, I really think they helped me with realizing things and really made me emotional. Who would’ve thought a sci-fi movie would do that. For a really good time watch Bullet Train. Now if you’re more in for a scare, and feeling a bit uncomfortable, then X would be the movie for you. But I still think checking all of them will maybe get a better impression on yourself. Maybe you like the movie more after seeing the actors. Lol
Anyways, in the comments let me know which movie you are planning to watch. Or recommend your favorite movie that cameo out this year.
