Trends for Autumn/Winter 2022

The sun has started setting earlier and the mornings have gotten chillier. It is a clear sign that the autumn season is arriving. Whether looking for a total closet revamp or just an upgrade to your current wardrobe; now is the perfect time to start doing so. It has not yet gotten super cold so you still have time to get your clothes together for when the time does get here. Following I wrote about five trends that I saw across catwalks for both men and women.

Prints, Colors, and Textures

From feathers to fur to sequins; bold colors and eye catching prints, this Autumn/Winter, a of the usual darker, cooler colors were left behind and have been replaced this year with something more bright and bold. The patterns as well from flower to animal prints. There is a variety for everyone’s liking.

While you don’t have to take it to the extremes like the catwalk looks, you can easily incorporate this trend into your fall wardrobe. One way to try this trend out is just by adding one stand out piece from this trend to just an ordinary look. This is a way to try this trend out without overwhelming yourself if you are not used to it. Or you can also just go all the way and have a full bold and out there look that will surely capture everyone’s attention.

Like above you can choose to add standout pieces to a plain outfit, or you can wear loud colors and add even more to it by adding a jacket that matches the color palette.

Suiting

Across both men and women’s catwalks, suits were very much. Present. From tapered to baggy. And colorful to classic; there was a suit for everyone.

You just need to find the designer for you. I think this is another trend that everyone can introduce to their wardrobe as well.

One easy one is always a suit jacket. This is something that is very easy to incorpate to any outfit because… its a jacket. You literally just throw it on. Lol it is also very easy to cordinate this to outfits because if you have a set color palette that you buy your clothes in; just by that color.

Or if you wanna experiment with designs and fabrics go to a thrift store and look there. Or even better DIY! Go to a thrift store buy a jacket that fits you and if you see one that you wanna copy from the runway or do your own interpretation it would be similar and your own creation. The jacket can be the focal point of your outfit and the rest of your look can be more toned down to highlight the jacket.

Also trousers can seem difficult to style, but not really. Again, they are pants. They can be very comfortable if you get the right pair. It’s another way that makes your looks a bit more thought it because the pants have a formal connotation.

Monochrome

(left to right; VTMTS, Valentino, Alexander McQueen AW 22)

Another color trend, however this one can be a little more subtle if used with the right colors. I think monochrome looks can be an easy look to pull off for anybody, especially people who are trying out different looks or trying new styles out.

When trying out this trend like mentioned you can use neutral colors if you want a more subtle put together look. You don’t stand out much, but you still look nice and coordinated. If you do want a little more attention, you can wear a monochrome look in a bright color.

Like pictured above, you can go for a very casual look with a neutral palette or go lavish in a bright yellow. You could also switch them up and bright causal and a neutral lavish look. I think this is a trend that anyone can tryout at least once and maybe you like it.

Leather

I believe this is an autumnal staple material. Whether it be a coat or a dress. There were a variety in colors but a lot of terracotta, browns and classic black were seen the most. You look chic and cool because a leather is eternally fashionable. Whether it be in a bright color, embossed, or stitched to have an intricate pattern. It is a must for this season. Go get a leather garment that suits you or experiment with them.

Layers

This is one that is seen across many runways, but is also just a staple thing for autumn in my opinion. I live in chicago and in the morning it might be 56 degrees and by 3pm it will be 82 degrees. Layering is a must because you can’t really dress in times where the seasons are changing because you either have to choose your struggle of freezing on your commute in the morning or having to carry a bunch of things in the afternoon.

I think layering is a fun and easy trend that anybody can try. It gives a simple outfit a more thought out feel because of all the different elements you are incorporating to your look. And if you feel that you don’t know if you may go overboard with it, go for it. If you look and feel comfortable nobody will question your outfit; and if they do; it shouldn’t matter as long as you like it!

Hopefully this helped inspire you for the season that is right around the corner. I think these trends can be tried out by anyone and I offer easy ways to try them out without putting anyone too out of their comfort zone.

As you can see from the pictures of the looks, a lot of trends had cross overs, whether it be a printed suit, a bright leather jacket or matching layered pieces. You don’t have to follow all, but a lot of the trends seem to take from each other. And you should too!

Let me know in the comments what trends you want to try out! Or what trends I missed. I definitely know there was more. Lol
