Sometimes we can be having an okay day, but then out of nowhere a wave of sadness can hit you. Or other times you aren’t feeling well and then a wave a sadness may hit you. No matter what was previously happening to you, when a wave of sadness gets to you, you get really sad. It sucks, especially when you don’t know why this happened. Here I will talk about some things that help me deal with sadness just overcoming me.
- Listen to Music
Listening to music is a great way to to get rid of being sad. Music can help change your mood into a more positive one. If you’re feeling sad play some happy upbeat music, unless you wanna embrace the sadness and cry; then I suggest you listen to some sad music. In any case, listen to your favorite music, listen to new music. Music can always help with sadness.
- Take a Nap
Napping might be the solution for you. It helps me. You will probably wake up feeling better and even refreshed. (If not :/{go back to sleep}) Maybe this wave of sadness hit you because you are stressed, over worked, and not sleeping as much as you should. Hey, it happens and it’s ok, just don’t let it become a habit. Nap whenever you can and set alarms to wake you, especially if you have work to do after your nap is done with. Sleep is essential for trying to function normally and not be tweaking.
- Do a face mask
Ok, face mask aren’t the answer for all your problems in life but I can help out with them. For me, personally, doing a face mask makes me feel better. It makes me feel as if I’m doing something good for myself, even if it is a wet paper on my face for 20-30 minutes. This will not only make you feel good because you are doing something good for your skin, but it is relaxing as well.
- Take a Walk
Just get your headphones and walk around. You really don’t need to have a specific place to go when doing this. Just see where you head and see if you find a cool place or shop. This helps me because I get to go outside, get some vitamin D (important), fresh air, and some exercise. Even though it might seem like a small thing, just a 10 minute walk outside can make you feel better. It helps clear your head and just have some alone time.
- Work Out
This is one of my personal favorite things to do, right after going for a walk. This helps me because not only is it helping me not be sad, but I’m working out. Win win in my book. While working out, you get to start focused more on your body rather than your thoughts and then whatever sadness that was bothering you goes away, because you are much more concerned about catching your breathe rather than crying for some unknown reason.
- Do Yoga
This is an alternative to working out. Some of us don’t like to sweat and that’s ok. You don’t have to be a pro to try yoga out. Just go on YouTube and look for poses that you would feel comfortable doing and can do (some poses are really hard.) This can also help relieve you of any negative emotions you may feeling and replace them with more mellow thoughts.
- Meditate
Although I am still a beginner at meditating, this is now one of my favorite things to do. It just really helps me forget all the negative things that stood out to me in the day and helps me remember the positive ones and emphasize them more. When doing this you have to be okay with being .1 quite and .2 being alone with your thoughts. Having both of these can take some time for some people while it might be easier than others. When you do get the hang of it just breathe in, and when you exhale let go of all the tension and negativity you had. TRUST ME! It works. That helps you not only relive the stress, it relaxes your muscles and your thoughts.
Hopefully you can use one of these to help you when you are faced with this issue. Let me know what your favorite ways to help relieve sadness.
