The West Wing: Kanye West Manic Run for President

Around 3 weeks ago, on July 4, Kanye West; via twitter announces his run for the presidential position by tweeting “”We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.” While this is not the first time the rapper now turned “politician”, has expressed wanting to be president as he first publicly stated this back in 2015 during an acceptance speech at the MTV VMA’s; even having the hashtag #Kanye2020 trending back then, if I remember correctly.

Fast forward 5 years later, low and behold Kanye is actually keeping his word… sorta. Like the title of his second album “Late Registration”, West was also late to register for the presidential bid. Kanye is registering as a third party- independent candidate; but in states such as “New York, Texas, North Carolina, Maine, New Mexico and Indiana, the deadline to appear on the ballot has passed” according to Ballotpedia. However, this did not discourage West at all, as on July 16, he met the deadline to get a spot on Oklahomas, Nov. 3 presidential ballot and paid the $35,000 filing fee. Moreover, he further solidified his stance by filing his “statement of candidacy” which is “accomplished when an individual raises or spends more than $5,000 in campaign activity, activating candidacy status under federal campaign finance law” according to the Associated Press. He even asked fans to sign a petition so he would be able to put on the South Carolina ballot.

Kanye West run for president could not and should not be taken serious. His stances on a lot of things are not good. He is against vaccines, when being asked about a covid-19 vaccine by Forbes, Kanye stated, “It’s so many of our children that are being vaccinated and paralysed … So when they say the way we’re going to fix covid is with a vaccine, I’m extremely cautious. That’s the mark of the beast. They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven.” He thinks that covid-19 was brought upon mankind because “We need to stop doing things that make God mad.” He is against pro-life, he states “ “pro-life because I’m following the word of the Bible”. He also wants “the fear and love of God in all schools and organisations.” Also… he is 43 years old and he posted a video of his FIRST TIME registering to vote… how does he want someone to vote for him but he never even voted… I-…

This all columnated to a now infamous rally held two days ago; where he made a lot of shocking statements ranging from Harriet Tubman slander (“Harriet Tubman actually never freed the slaves, she just had the slaves go work for other white people”) to airing out very personal things his wife and himself went through (“I almost killed my daughter”) to name a few. Not to mention this rally was held in vain, as he did not make the deadline to be listed as a candidate in the South Carolina ballot because he did not get the 10,000 signatures needed.

The following day, yesterday night; Kanye went on a twitter rant/venting? session, where he called out his own wife and mother in law, in which most of not all tweets were then Deleted. But, we are in 2020 and screenshots exist. Here are some of the statements he made last night.

I make this post not to shame a man when he is down, but to bring to light what many people face in the dark. What you are seeing is part of a manic episode. The dreams of grandeur, hyperreligiosity, paranoia, depression, just to name a few.

• Dreams of grandeur:

because he wants to be president with such a slim chance. Not to be THAT person, but even trump, who is still and will always be unqualified and unfit to be president knew what to do when running president. To my surprise he actually tried running for president back in 2000 but dropped out. So when he actually ran and won in 2012; he didn’t just jump in the end like Kanye, he unfortunately knew how to successfully run a campaign.

•Hyperreligiosity:

This has been a more noticeable trait in Kanye. As he started a Sunday Service. Not a church, more of a religious gathering where they gather to sing and pray together. While it first started in his former hometown of Calabasas as invite only; it then took off to having various pop up church services on Sunday across the country. Hitting his hometown of Chicago to meeting with major Christian leader Joel Osteen in Houston. He also released a gospel album named “Jesus Is King.”

•Paranoia:

This can be seen in the tweets above where he states Kim tried to lock him up and if he gets locked up we know why. I honestly feel sad for Kanye because that is just his family want to help him and make him feel better.

To conclude, I hope Kanye West gets the help he needs and deserves. As someone who has bipolar, it’s hard to live with it, but it can be done. He has always been an innovator in the fashion and music space. I hope he surrounds himself with people who are beneficial for him; meaning no more “yes men.” This will probably be hard since he is the employer and his employees; whether it be from YEEZY or his campaign, don’t wanna lose their job for disagreeing with him.

While I do thinks it’s nice that everyone is telling him to seek help and stuff, what I don’t like is the people who were bashing Azealia Banks when she had her breakdowns; but are here to uplift Kanye. Your misogynoir is showing! You can’t pick and choose who’s mental breakdowns you will support and who’s you will judge! Azealia Banks deserved all the love and support Kanye West was getting because she too is bipolar. Yet, she was scrutinized and put under a microscope.

Keep the same energy!

I’m hoping that moving forward people will accept everyone’s mental health, but will help and uplift them; while holding them accountable and making room for growth.

If you or anyone you know are having problems please, visit a doctor! It’s the first step in acceptance of your mental health, and the first step into moving past it and living your best life. : )
