Three Easy Drinks to Make at Home

Over the stay at home period, of course, many people had started to learn how to make their favorite drinks because a lot of their favorite establishments have been closed, and practically became baristas (JK). I, being one of those people. Before quarintine started, I would drink like one to two coffees a day depending if I was working. Although I was not working, I still wanted my daily dose. Additionally, I also wanted to introduce some more healthier food options to my life. These are some of my favorite drinks to make at home that are good and also good for you. They are quick and easy, each taking no more than 10 minutes or so.

Dalonga Coffee

Around the beginning of the pandemic, right when most if not all coffee shops where closed, a trend started online. Originating from South Korea and being popularized on tik tok; this coffee drink became viral because of the look and how easy it was to make. You only need three ingredients and take about 5-10 minutes. I made this and it was good, it’s just cool looking coffee lol.

Total time: ~10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of instant coffee mix
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • some milk (usually just use the amount you use in coffee, but maybe go a little extra if you don’t like a stronger coffee mix because most instant mixes are medium or dark roast)

Excluding the milk, mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl for about 5-10 minutes until you get a light fluffy consistency. . (HIGHLY suggest using an electric mixer, super quick and easier. If you don’t have one or couldn’t find it (like I) try doing it by hand; the quality will come out how you want it… eventually you just have to keep whisking it for a while. But hey, it can be a great work out for your wrists.

Get a cup, for aesthetic purposes a mason jar preferably, and you add milk (oat milk is my personal favorite!) and ice if you want it iced and colder. When you do have the whipped coffee ready, just pour it on top of the ice and milk in your cup and jar. Then just take a picture, post it to your story; then mix it with a spoon or a straw and enjoy!

Smoothies

Yes, just smoothies lol. Now this isn’t the latest trendiest snack, but it is a great one! This was a healthy addition I added to my life. I started drinking green smoothies and they are not bad at all. You think something with Kale and Spinach would taste weird but it doesn’t at all.

Total time: 6-7 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of kale (or any other favorite green)
  • 1 cup of spinach (or any other favorite green, we want the green color lol)
  • 1 cup of frozen mangos
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 1 cup of preferred milk

I don’t add everything together and then try blending it because I noticed that sometimes it can come out chunky; this IS a smoothie, not a chunky. I add the milk and usually blend the greens first to make sure by the end they are fully shredded and there are no pieces you can chew on. (Sidenote: If you don’t have a magic bullet or smaller blender, I suggest getting one their pretty cheap and the blender cup is the cup you drink out of so it saves time and dirty dishes lol.) Then I continue to add the frozen fruit, I add this second because again, it is frozen and it is harder to blend sometimes so by the end of the blending it should be blended nicely. I finally add the chia seeds and any softer fruits lastly since they are easier and faster to blend and do not need much time to blend. Usually takes no more than 6-7 minutes, I blend stuff for 2 minutes or so each: kale & spinach, frozen fruit, non-frozen fruit & chia seeds.

I love smoothies because they are fully customizable. You can literally make them with any of your favorite fruit. I make this one specifically because it has great benefits overall. According to U.S. News,”Green smoothies are packed with fiber, which lowers cholesterol and glucose levels, keeps you feeling fuller for longer and regulates your body’s cleansing processes. Plus, it’s a tasty way to get a strong dose of fruits and veggies, which provide vital nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, folate and potassium.” Furthermore, you can add other ingredients that will also be beneficial for you. I add chia seeds because only one tablespoon is enough for the daily amount needed. This one drink can really be a gate way to healthy eating because it’s a small way of introducing healthier quick snacks to your life. You can probably make even bigger batches in a big blender and have some ready for breakfast or snacking throughout the day.

Tea

Yup. Just Tea. I feel like this is such a great drink because there is such a variety of different teas for different purposes. Feeling Tired? Drink some caffeinated green tea. Can’t sleep? Drink some chamomile tea. Bloated? Drink some senna leaf tea. Tea is awesome! My favorite teas are Chamomile, Honey Vanilla Chamomile, and Pineapple.

Total time: 3-5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 1-2 bags of favorite tea

Pour your cup of hot water over the tea bags (2 for a more stronger flavored and one for less) in the tea cup or favorite mug. Let them steep for about 3-5 minutes (also the longer steeped in the hot water, the stronger the flavor as well.) Then ENJOY! Like I mentioned before there is a tea for almost anything from headaches to stomach aches; just google your ache and add tea and then teas that help with that will come out. (Note: this is not an alternative to medicine, this can just help alleviate some pain temporarily)

Overall, these drinks are simple ways to quench your thirst and even hunger. They can be great ways to start having a healthier life style, everything starts in baby steps. This can also be great drinks to instagram. These drinks are also perfect for everyday life. If you’re a person who’s on the go, a smoothie is a great way to have some type of breakfast or lunch. While the coffee or tea can be used for the days when you just want to relax and read a book or something to sip on at work or watching a movie. I personally love a a green smoothie for breakfast and a cup of honey vanilla chamomile tea when reading. Which drink is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
