For the past couple of months the world has been in turmoil from the Coronavirus epidemic. The outcome from this pandemic has been an extra push for cleanliness. In one of my last posts, I went a little in depth on the impact of the face mask and the fashion world. Like always fashion adjusts to the times and circumstances. People are not only using face masks, but they are also starting to wear gloves.

While at the moment, people are using surgical gloves for protection against the disease and germs, in the long run it is not a good thing for the planet. Why? Most surgical gloves are made from latex. According to the Environmental Nature Center, “latex takes about 6 months to 4 years to decompose and this does not include the havoc in can cause before it does decompose.” While in the short term it helps you from getting germs on your hands, nobody uses one pair of gloves for a whole day. Once you take them off, even if you wanted to put them on they are difficult to put on and it is not sanitary because it’s full of germs from all the stuff you previously touched.
I think there will be a rise in the use of gloves from people. While at the moment, there is not a lot of fast fashion or even a lot of designer ready to wear collections with gloves as accessories, the collections to come there probably will be an influx of gloves. However, there has been some designers who have included gloves for this year. I’m including gloves from collections in all four seasons of the 2020 year because I think it’ll become a norm sooner or later. From designer working gloves to over the top opera gloves, fashion houses are putting their own twist to this long time useful piece.
Designer Utility

These will probably be the type of gloves everybody will be wearing. A short glove that is made from material that is probably easy to produce. Either Gucci inspired plastic gloves that resemble dish washing gloves. Or non-slip Louis Vuitton gloves. The previous will probably be more popular because of the plastic. Nevertheless, both will be able to be replicated on a budget just in case you don’t have an extra $380 for those non-slip Louis gloves.
Dainty and Delicate

While this won’t fully protect your from germs, as the gloves are made from tulle or lace. They do add a more sophisticated touch to your look.
Attention Grabber

Now, you know not everyone is suit for the everyday glove. Maybe sometimes you wanna be a little extra. Or maybe you always like to show up and show out with your outfits. This is a type of glove you wear, a full length opera glove. Now this glove you can have more fun with because you don’t always wear an opera glove. This is a statement piece. Go big or go home. Wear a suede pair like in the Dior F/W 2020 collection or make a statement with a pair of S/S 2020 Haute Couture Valentino opera gloves with oversized ruching on the top.

Whether it is to add an extra barrier of protection against germs or add an extra touch of glamour to your outfit, gloves are coming to the forefront during these times crisis.
REMINDER
GERMS CAN MULTIPLY UNDER GLOVES ! Moist environments under gloves are a perfect reservoir for bacteria to multiply. Gloves may have small, unapparent defects or sustain microscopic tears during use, thus allowing hands to become contaminated. Always wash your hands before and after using gloves.”
